    Do not be Proud

There are many verses in the Bible that talk about pride leading to a fall. I heard this verse in church this past Sunday. It wasn’t the focus of the sermon, but it struck me as interesting and very much how I’ve always tried to consider things when going about my day at work.

Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Romans 12:16

    Evil

I got this from an email today. It’s just a portion of a story, but I think it’s the most profound part of the story. It is the most interesting and correct way I have ever heard the concept of evil described.

Evil does not exist or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light.

    Let Us Pray

I had a thought during church this morning and I had to share it. If we ever truly understood the power of prayer, we would do it more often. We would do it more than at bed and in the morning. We would do it more than just before a meal. More than when things are going wrong and we need to ask for help.
If we truly understood, we would do it before every major project at work. We would do it before all meetings and decisions. We would go to the Lord in prayer to thank him for the simple things – sunshine, rain, kisses, hugs, laughing, pizza, and a number of other things.
If we ever truly understood the power that a simple conversation with our Lord and Savior has over our lives we would spend more than 30 minutes a day doing it and our lives would be better for.

The kids from the daycare that operates out of our church sang this morning. They sang these words - “Let us pray, Let us pray, everywhere and every way, Every moment of the day is the right time.”
Make it a priority in your life and your life will be blessed.

    Bond Keeps Getting Better

Just got home from the new Bond movie and it was incredible. It was not stop edge of your seat entertainment while still feeling connected to the characters. Daniel Craig has brought back the Connery era Bond only made it his own which is to say made it way better. I’m going to have to watch Casino Royale now till Quantum of Solace comes out on dvd just to tide me over.

    Warm Fuzzy Feelings

Just caught this article about good jobs to have in a recession. I wouldn’t say it makes me feel more comfortable in life, but apparently someone smarter than me thinks my job is safe for a while. Nerds shall rule the world.

    Ultimate Car Control

This is the coolest car control video I’ve seen. I’m slightly biased as I am a Subaru fan anyways.

    Bond

Just a reminder to anyone that reads this. The new Bond film starts this weekend. Go see it. It will rock. I’ll give a report after I see it on Friday night.

    The Carving

Maxx, Makayla, and I carved the pumpkin this evening. Makayla offered support by bringing me the necessary tools. Maxx offered his create inspiration. I cut. I think it turned out pretty well. I used the dremel on the initial design. How much of a nerd am I?

What the Brits have to say

"You have to pinch yourself - a Marxist radical who all his life has been mentored by, sat at the feet of, worshiped with, befriended, endorsed the philosophy of, funded and been in turn funded, politically promoted and supported by a nexus comprising black power anti-white racists, Jew-haters, revolutionary Marxists, unrepentant former terrorists and Chicago mobsters, is on the verge of becoming President of the United States. And apparently it's considered impolite to say so."

    Tis the Season

It was Family Pumpkin day for the Boonstra’s on Sunday. We spent a small portion of the afternoon picking pumpkins to carve. Maxx really enjoyed the goats. I’ll post pics of the carved pumpkins after this weekend. Had a great time with Maxx and Makayla on the farm.

    Wedding Number 2

My buddy Nate got Married this past weekend. He was married earlier in the year, but being the nice guy he is, he decided to get married again so we could have a party. I got to hang out with my three most favorite people outside my own family. I had a great time and can’t thank everyone involved for making such and enjoyable celebration. I think we should have a party every year no matter what the occasion.

    Buying a Presidency

Just read this on msnbc -

On Monday alone, Obama spent $3.3 million in TV advertising. At that rate the Democrat will spend more than $90 million on ads through the Nov. 4 election — more than all the money McCain has to spend on his entire fall campaign.

    Wa Wa Wakoopa

logoI just started using a new piece of software that tracks what software I use, how often I use it, and generates some neat statistics on my usage. It’s called wakoopa. It’s free and it is a sort of community itself. You can check out my page here - http://wakoopa.com/andboo1. Join me it you’re interested. I think it’s kind of cool.

    The Birk Plan

I got this from dad in email this morning. I find it quite clever.

I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.
Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a "We Deserve
    It Dividend".
To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonifide U.S.
Citizens 18+. Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and
    child.
So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up.
So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.
My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a "We Deserve It
Dividend".  Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let's assume a tax rate of 30%.
Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.
But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband and wife has $595,000.00.
What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage, housing crisis solved.
Repay college loans, what a great boost to new grads
Put away money for college, it'll be there
Save in a bank, create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car, create jobs
Invest in the market , capital drives growth
Pay for your parent's medical insurance, health care improves
Enable "Deadbeat Dads" to come clean, or else
Remember, this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+  including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.
If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of trickling out a puny $1,000.00 (vote buy) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.
If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult US Citizen 18+!
As for AIG, liquidate it. Sell off its parts. Let "American General" go back to being "American General". Sell off the real estate. Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.
Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.
Sure it's a crazy idea that can never work. Maybe???
But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!
How do you spell Economic Boom?
I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 billion "We
Deserve It Dividend" more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington
    DC.
And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5
Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

    Ipod Touch 2g

I put the new ipod through it's paces last night and it failed miserably. It crashed three times in a 5 hour period and the one feature that I was looking forward to, the Nike+ integration, worked terribly. As of this morning of called Apple for an RMA and I've placed an order for an iPod Classic 80Gb and an iPod Nano 8gb for about $100 less than I paid for the Touch. I will used the Classic as my primary iPod and the Nano for exercise. I still have all the old Nike+ stuff for my old Nano so I'm good to go.

On a side note, my personal opinion after two iPod touches over a 7 month period is that the Touch is just a marketing gimmick. It does a lot of neat things, but when it comes down to it, none of things it does were anything I use. I use my iPod for music and that's about the limit of it so the Classic and Nano will fit my needs very well. Live and learn.

    Out with the Old

nike-hero20080909 I've had a minor upgrade to my mp3 player. I sold my iPod Touch and bought...an iPod Touch. Yes, I made a little money on the sale. Apple released their latest iteration last week and I jumped on it. It finally had the piece I've been wanting - integration with Nike+ which I used a lot on my nano and have missed since I made the switch to a Touch. The new Touch arrived today and the old shipped this past Saturday. I'm going to go for a run tonight with it and see how it does. I'm looking forward to it. So far just played with it a little and the screen is better and it actually does feel a lot nicer. Definitely thinner and much better build quality. I have an addiction and I know. That's the first step to healing.
